2023 GMC Yukon: Upgrades, Specs, and Review

The 2023 Yukon is GMC’s flagship full-size SUV. It comes with impressive refinement, a new and powerful 3.0L turbo-diesel inline-six engine, and improved towing capability and comfortability, all packaged with a touch of luxury. The new Yukon is GMC’s most accommodating and luxurious SUV with three-row seating and a longer wheelbase in the XL trim for even more space. The 2023 Yukon rivals the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and the premium SUVs in its class like the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade.
Engine and Performance
The 2023 Yukon offers two powerful engine options: a 5.3L V8 engine that produces 355 hp and 383 lbs.-ft.of torque which is standard for the SLE and SLT trims and a 6.2L V8 engine that produces an impressive 420 hp and 460 lbs.-ft.of torque for the upper trims - the off-road AT4, the upscale Denali, and the Denali Ultimate, the Yukon’s peak of luxury.
In addition to the gas-powered engines, the new Yukon can also be optioned with an available 3.0L turbo-diesel inline-six engine that churns out a massive 460 lbs.-ft. of torque. This new addition to the Yukon’s engine lineup is definitely the choice for drivers who need an SUV with the muscle to tow heavy loads.
The Yukon’s 5.3L V8s are the most efficient gasoline-powered models, returning 16 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg combined. The turbo-diesel engine easily returns 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
All versions of the Yukon use a 10-speed automatic transmission and offer either rear - or all-wheel drive. Drivers who are looking for an off-road-oriented version should go for the AT4. The AT4 features a front skid plate, 20" wheels with goodyear® all-terrain tires, and first-in-class available four-corner air ride adaptive suspension offering up to two more inches
of ground clearance.
If you need to tow heavy items, pair the 5.3L engine with the available Max Trailering Package to tow up to 8,400 lbs.

Interior and Convenience
We can’t blame you if you’re wowed by the Yukon’s slick interior, especially in the Denali Ultimate. Premium-grade materials are ubiquitous throughout the Yukon, and it’s available in a variety of flavors. The SLE and SLT come with premium materials, including aluminum details, accent stitching, and perforated leather-appointed seating.
The Denali models offer a unique interior design with their exclusive wood-trimmed dashboard, sleek matte wood trim, and hand-stitched leather upholstery. Of course, the new Denali Ultimate gets all the best and most premium amenities of the Yukon.
The Yukon and the longer-wheelbase Yukon XL can comfortably fit up to eight passengers with available second-row captain's chairs for 7-seating. A power-sliding center console is standard on the Denali and available in the SLT and AT4 models
The new Yukon is remarkably spacious on the inside, especially in the larger XL model, with 145 cubic feet of maximum cargo space with all seats stowed. This easily beats its competition, like the Ford Expedition Max, which only sits at 122 cubic feet behind its front row of seats.
If you’re always on the go and need lots of cargo space, you’ll be happy to know that the base Yukon has more than enough space for six carry-on cases behind its third-row seats. If you need more space, stow the third and second rows, and you’ll get plenty of space to complete a small apartment move.
Safety and Security
The NHTSA rates the 2023 Yukon as a four-star overall vehicle, which is a rare score to get. The 2023 Yukon is equipped with GMC’s standard suite of driver-assistance features including automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning, available lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and available adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode.
GMC’s Super Cruise™ driver assistance technology is also available in the upper trims.
Infotainment and Connectivity
All Yukon trims come with a large and very user-friendly 10.2-inch premium infotainment display with GMC's latest infotainment interface and standard connectivity features including Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration and a Wi-Fi hotspot. A sizable 15-inch diagonal head-up display, navigation, and an 18-speaker Bose audio system for bright and crisp acoustics are also optional features.
